types of hand tools to be taught

Learning Basic Hand Tools

Hello! And thanks for visiting our website! We appreciate that you have taken an interest in our mission.

Teaching Work Skills is excited to be hosting several FREE “Learning the Basics Workshops” at Make-It-Here.

Make-It-Here is located at 5225 Thatcher Rd in Downers Grove, Il. It is a 15,000 sq.ft. fully equipped workshop for making, designing and experimenting with wood and metal projects. They also provide space for the robotics teams from several local area high schools.

While the pictures on the Make-It-Here.com website show a variety of power tools and wood/metal machines, this workshop teaches hand tools.

During this workshop, we will give you instructions and guidance for approximately 20 common hand tools. Practical hands-on experience will be gained through easy and straightfoward exercises.

There are no guarantees that you will be able to run your own construction company after the class, but you will have some fun in learning the basics.

Prior knowledge of hand tools is not necessary at all. Safety glasses, gloves, and aprons will be provided. Gym shoes, work boots, or other sturdy footwear is required, NO open-toed shoes/slippers allowed.

In addition to learning the basics, you will be helping fine-tune the curriculum for the Teaching Work Skills Organization.

The events calendar (  is currently under construction) normally indicates the current class times. Because the class size is limited, please, please, mark the date on your calendar, phone app after you sign-up.

If you do not see a time slot that fits your schedule, let us know. Schedule adjustments can be made. Meaning we can add classes to meet your needs.
